MS Amlin has appointed Christiern Dart (pictured) as its next chief executive. He will take up the role in January 2026, subject to regulatory approval, succeeding Andrew Carrier, who is stepping down after three years in the post.
Dart joins from Brit, where he served as group chief underwriting officer. With more than 30 years’ experience in re/insurance, Dart most recently oversaw an underwriting capacity of over £2bn across a multi-line portfolio. His 17-year career at Brit included roles as deputy active underwriter for syndicate 2987, then active underwriter for both syndicates 2987 and 2988. Dart began his career underwriting North American property and casualty portfolios at CNA Re, later holding similar roles at Liberty Syndicates before joining Brit in 2007.
He said: “I’m so excited to make the move to MS Amlin, and to continue the excellent work of the entire business. MS Amlin is such a well-respected name in the market, and with the unmatched support of MSI and the wider MS&AD group, I know exciting opportunities and times lie ahead for us all.”
Dart replaces Carrier, who has chosen to retire from his current role but will remain with the wider Mitsui Sumitomo group as an executive office.
Shinichiro Funabiki, president and chief executive of Mitsui Sumitomo, said: “I am delighted to announce Christiern’s appointment as MS Amlin’s new CEO. His leadership and strategic approach at Brit clearly demonstrate his talent, and I speak for the board and the broader executive team in MSI when I say how excited I am for him to start his new role with us and take the company to the next stage of its development.
“I must take this opportunity to thank Andrew for everything he has achieved during his tenure with us, from 2020 as CUO, and particularly the last three years as CEO. He brought a renewed underwriting discipline to the business that has left such a positive mark on our company consciousness that his presence will be felt long after he moves into his new role as executive officer for MSI. In this new role, we know Andrew’s deep professional expertise, along with his sincerity, honesty and genuine compassion, will continue to bring value that is rare in today’s world.”
Under Carrier’s leadership, MS Amlin posted its best financial result in more than a decade in 2023, followed by continued strong performance in 2024.
