Chemstore UK is offering a free lithium-ion battery safety site survey for eligible businesses across the UK. This follows growing concern over fires linked to lithium-ion batteries, particularly in e-bikes, e-scooters and energy storage systems.
UK fire services attend hundreds of battery-related incidents each year. The London Fire Brigade has reported a "concerning spike" in fires involving these devices. Nationally, incidents involving lithium-ion batteries have more than doubled in the last three years.
With legislation and standards around battery safety still in development, Chemstore's survey provides a review of a company's battery storage, charging and safety arrangements, with recommendations for improvements.
The audit covers assessment of storage and charging facilities, review of fire detection and suppression measures, evaluation of emergency response planning, and guidance on compliance with evolving standards.
“Lithium-ion batteries are essential for the UK’s net zero transition, but without robust safety measures they present very real hazards,” said Mike Brodie, managing director at Chemstore UK. “We’re offering these surveys free of charge for eligible businesses to help them get ahead of new regulations and take proactive steps to safeguard staff, assets and operations.”
The surveys are available on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible businesses handling lithium-ion batteries commercially.
