Allianz UK has enhanced its battery energy storage systems proposition for mid-market energy clients with complex risks.
The announcement comes as battery storage becomes a more significant part of the UK's renewable energy infrastructure, supporting electricity generation and grid resilience.
Christian Simpson, head of construction, engineering and energy insurance, technical and underwriting at Allianz UK, said: “Battery energy storage is becoming an increasingly important part of the UK’s renewable energy infrastructure, and brokers are seeing more clients exploring opportunities in this space. It’s a developing area of risk, which is why early conversations with experienced underwriters and renewable energy specialists are so valuable.
“This enhanced proposition underscores Allianz’s commitment to supporting the transition to net-zero solutions by providing comprehensive insurance product for low-carbon technologies and renewable energy projects.
“By working closely with Allianz Commercial, we’re giving brokers clearer access to the right expertise across Allianz. We want brokers to feel confident bringing BESS opportunities to us so we can understand each project, look at the controls in place and discuss where we can support both the broker and the customer.”
The expanded capability forms part of Allianz UK's wider renewable energy underwriting, which also includes wind, solar, hydro, biomass, anaerobic digestion and short-term operating reserve projects.
