The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, also known as Martyn’s Law, received Royal Assent today.
The legislation was developed in response to the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing, which claimed 22 lives, including Martyn Hett.
The Act aims to enhance public safety by mandating that those responsible for premises and events assess and improve their preparedness for potential terrorist attacks.
There will be an implementation period of at least 24 months before the Act comes into force, giving those responsible for premises and events in scope of the rules sufficient time to understand their new obligations, and to plan and prepare appropriately – one decade after the bombing.
