Airmic’s Island of Ireland Forum: Less than two weeks to go!

In just under two weeks’ time, Airmic will be holding its inaugural Island of Ireland Forum, a one-day event of presentations, panels and sessions – including a keynote from Seán Fleming TD, Minister of State with responsibility for financial services, credit unions and insurance.

From cyber risk and insurance, macroeconomic instability, geopolitical tensions and the continuing climate emergency, the day offers a member-focused agenda for practitioners facing a perfect storm of risks and challenges.

“Airmic has a long-standing presence on the Island of Ireland, although this is predominantly in the north. Northern Ireland member organisations such as Northern Irish Water have been some of the most active and engaged participants in Airmic activities and events for years. We also have a growing presence south of the border, through companies like Sodexho, Allied Irish Bank and the important international captive market domiciled there,” Julia Graham (pictured), CEO of Airmic explained. ”As our membership across the island grows and given the global and regional risks that are currently emerging, we see this as an ideal time to start establishing a more active presence in Ireland and encouraging the sharing of experience and expertise.

“The Airmic Articles of Association already embrace the island and our members based there have been asking us for more support on networking, professional development, and community building for a number of years. ‘Why not have a Forum in the island?’ we were asked. Why not indeed! We responded with the Forum this year.”

“We are looking forward to hearing the views of a unique community from a major regional and global business and insurance hub. There will be some topics unique to the island under discussion; especially around the impact of the war in Ukraine on aircraft leasing and the role of Ireland as a centre for international insurance, including its position as a captive domiciliary and financial centre inside the EU," Graham added.

Airmic is “on the island to stay”, and will be back with another Dublin Forum in October 2023, an event focused on the island at its major annual conference in Manchester in June 2023, and a planned programme of joint papers with local and international stakeholders.
