Cyber asset management provider ThreatAware has launched a platform designed to help organisations build and run custom security applications while maintaining oversight of data access, permissions and automated actions.
Dimension provides a workspace for developing applications using AI coding tools, with built-in access controls, approval processes, audit logs, version control and backups. Applications can connect to existing systems through APIs and, where they need to change live systems, actions must be explicitly configured and approved.
The launch follows research conducted by Censuswide among IT security decision-makers highlighting concerns over the governance of internally developed applications. More than three-quarters (77%) said their security teams had used AI coding assistants to build internal security tools in the past 12 months.
However, 45% said self-built tools did not undergo the same review and approval processes as other software, while 41% had no formal policy for AI-built internal security applications, or did not enforce one. Nearly seven in ten respondents (69%) said applications had been delayed or abandoned because of security, governance or compliance concerns.
Jon Abbott, CEO and co-founder of ThreatAware, said: “AI has made it easier for organisations to build applications on the fly. But what teams often overlook is that building an application is only the first step. They need to know what data those applications can access, who is responsible for them, and that they are fully governed. Dimension gives them the freedom to build the tools they need, without compromising on governance or creating another layer of unmanaged technology.”
