COVID-19: Supply chain risks rise as fears of pandemic grow

The number of patients in England to have tested positive for coronavirus has increased from nine to 14. In these four new cases, the virus was passed on in the Diamond Princess cruise ship. Chief medical officer, Chris Whitty said the patients are being transferred from Arrowe Park to specialist NHS infection centres.

Official World Health Organisation data from the 23rd February, reports 78,811 laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus globally, of which 1,017 were confirmed in the previous 24 hours. Many of these (650) were reported in China.

Whilst the impact of the virus itself on individuals in the UK has so far been low, the effect on increasingly complex supply chains has already been borne out, and looks likely to be an ongoing challenge for the coming months -- particularly in the light of concerns at WHO that the virus may in fact become a global pandemic.

In seeking to address some of the more common questions around supply chain disruption, and the potentially related legal issues, global law firm, DLA Piper published recently a series of critical considerations when looking to resolve a disruption in supply.
