Arrests made as protests get underway in Westminster

*UPDATED*

Protesters have begun their fortnight-long demonstrations around the capital, with Westminster and its government departments, roads and bridges key target areas. On the other side of town, a few hundred campaigners are said to have gathered in Trafalgar Square.

London City Airport is said to be the next target for the climate activists, with Liverpool St and the City on the agenda for next week.

As at 21:30 on Monday, 280 people have been arrested, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Similar climate protests are taking place this week in Amsterdam, Berlin, Madrid and Vienna and elsewhere in the world.
