The list of professions that qualify for exemptions from self-isolation or passenger locator form requirements has been updated to add certain senior executives, journalists, newly-signed elite sportspersons, performing arts professionals and television production professionals.
People entering the UK must complete a passenger locator form before travel to the UK; self-isolate if they’ve been in a non-exempt country or territory in the 14 days before they arrive in the UK; and follow any local or national restrictions (which are different for England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales).
Individuals on the exempt list don’t have to fill in a passenger locator form or self-isolate on arrival in the UK. The full list can be found here: [external page moved and therefore link updated 8th July 2021]: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-travellers-exempt-from-uk-border-rules/coronavirus-covid-19-travellers-exempt-from-uk-border-rules
This update comes as the Department for Transport and the UK Border Force prepare to roll out the new Test to Release for International Travel scheme. Under the new scheme, if an individual is only allowed to leave self-isolation for work-related activities in England, they can from 15th December take a coronavirus test, which, if returned negative, would allow them to end their self-isolation.
The separate, location-based travel corridors approach and rules still apply.
COVID-19 in numbers
