Flood Re to launch national flood resilience platform

Flood Re has announced plans to develop BeFloodReady into a national platform providing information, guidance and support on flood resilience across the UK.

Announced during Flood Action Week, with support from Defra and floods minister Emma Hardy, the initiative follows Flood Re’s acquisition of the BeFloodReady brand from Cornwall Council. The brand originated as an Environment Agency Pathfinder project.

The platform aims to bring together existing guidance, practical tools and expert advice to help property owners and communities understand flood risks, prepare properties and recover after flooding.

Kelly Ostler-Coyle, director of corporate affairs at Flood Re, said: "Flooding can have a devastating impact on people’s lives, homes, businesses and communities. But while we cannot prevent every flood, there is much more we can do to help people prepare, reduce the damage and recover more quickly.

“By bringing together organisations from across the resilience community, we can help more people take simple steps that reduce damage, speed up recovery and build greater confidence for the future."

Longer-term plans include supporting the development of Flood Performance Certificates, creating skills and accreditation opportunities for resilience professionals and insurers, and providing access to Property Flood Resilience providers.

The platform is also intended to connect policymakers, industry, researchers and communities to support research, innovation and evidence sharing across the sector.

The next milestone is the inaugural BeFloodReady conference, scheduled for 22 April 2027. The event will bring together representatives from government, insurance, local authorities, academia, community organisations and industry, with practical demonstrations, research and discussions on flood resilience.
