Mosaic expands political violence cover in Europe

Mosaic Insurance has launched direct political violence underwriting from its European headquarters in Cologne, Germany, offering up to €100m (£85m) of syndicated capacity to European brokers.

The cover is available for commercial, industrial and residential property risks and includes acts of terrorism and sabotage, malicious damage, strikes, riots and civil commotion, active assailant incidents and war perils. Related liability cover is also available.

Mosaic said demand for political violence insurance is increasing across Europe as terrorism, state-backed sabotage and social unrest create risks to property and business continuity. The insurer said geopolitical and socio-economic pressures are affecting European markets in different ways, while the potential for losses to spread across multiple businesses and locations is also increasing.

Adam McGrath, global head of political violence at Mosaic, said: “We’re delighted to announce the launch of political violence cover through Mosaic Europe. Having already established direct capacity in the US and Dubai markets, we have now expanded into Europe with this line of business by taking advantage of our Cologne presence and strong foothold in the region.”

The new facility allows Mosaic to write European Economic Area business directly from Germany for EEA brokers. The company said the move is intended to increase access to political violence capacity as businesses assess exposures arising from a more uncertain geopolitical environment.

Dennis Bertram, managing director for Europe at Mosaic, added: “Europe is a diverse and multi-cultural continent that faces risks from many different forms of political violence and our European business is committed to supporting clients through what is a challenging and uncertain environment. By offering coverage through our German hub, we are able to write EEA business directly to EEA brokers, expanding our reach through the European market.”
