Commercial insurance rates fall 6% in Q2

Commercial insurance rates worldwide fell by an average of 6% in the second quarter of 2026, marking the eighth consecutive quarterly decline, according to Marsh's latest Global Insurance Market Index.

The UK recorded an 8% fall. India, the Middle East and Africa saw the largest regional decrease at 16%, while rates fell 2% in the US.

Property insurance rates dropped 12% globally, with an 11% decline in the UK. By contrast, casualty rates increased 2% worldwide, driven by a 7% rise in the US.

Cyber insurance rates fell 4% globally, extending a run of quarterly declines, while financial and professional lines rates declined 3%.

John Donnelly, president, global placement, Marsh Risk, said: “In many markets, in addition to competing based on price, insurers are seeking to differentiate themselves through broader coverage, expanded policy terms and lower deductibles. While economic uncertainty has led many buyers to retain premium savings, many organisations are also continuing to invest in alternative risk strategies, including captives.”
