Zurich expands datacentre offering

Zurich Insurance Group has expanded its Data Center Project Guard insurance offering into Brazil, Germany, Italy, the Nordics and Spain, with further international expansion planned throughout the remainder of 2026.

The policy provides cover for risks associated with datacentre construction projects, including contractors' all risks insurance, optional third-party liability and delay-in-start-up protection. Coverage is adapted to local regulatory requirements while aiming to provide consistency across different jurisdictions.

The offering also includes risk engineering and advisory support throughout the construction process.

Kelly Kinzer, global head of construction and surety at Zurich Insurance Group, said: “We are seeing unprecedented growth in datacentre construction, driven by the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and the need for greater computing capacity. These are highly complex projects requiring specialised expertise. With Data Center Project Guard, we provide our customers with consistent, end-to-end protection backed by our leading underwriting and risk engineering capabilities and decades of technical risk expertise.”

Investment in datacentre infrastructure continues to grow, driven by rising demand for computing capacity and artificial intelligence. Zurich underwrote more than 245 datacentre construction projects in the US during 2025 following the product's launch there.
