Specialist insurance provider CFC is launching a pilot programme that uses agentic underwriting to automate the process of turning email submissions into quote recommendations in seconds.
Designed for low complexity submissions, Lane Assist aims to accelerate quoting for brokers handling high-volume, mass appetite risks, while reducing friction and ensuring consistency.
Launched this month, Lane Assist is being piloted within CFC’s cyber underwriting team, engaging a small number of real new business submissions reviewed by an underwriter in live workflows, and producing real quotes. This will allow CFC to test performance, learn quickly and refine the technology before considering a broader rollout.
“Lane Assist represents a genuine step change in how underwriting can be augmented responsibly using AI,” said Chris Mullan, head of data and AI at CFC. “This is not a lab experiment – it’s working with real submissions, in live workflows. By starting small, we can validate outcomes, learn quickly and ensure the technology fully supports our underwriters rather than overriding their judgement.”
The pilot also explores how time saved through automation can be reinvested into strengthening broker relationships and tackling complex risks. CFC’s goal is to scale agentic underwriting in a way that benefits brokers, underwriters and customers.
