California wildfires continue to rage

More than 42 people have died and a further 200 are missing as a result of the wildfires in Northern and Southern California. Fanned by powerful Santa Ana winds in the south and Diablo winds in the north, the fire is now the deadliest on record in the state.

The most catastrophic fire was the Camp Fire in Butte County, where the city of Paradise was largely destroyed. CalFire cited that 6,453 homes and 260 businesses were destroyed, making the Camp Fire the most destructive on record in California. The Woolsey Fire has destroyed at least 177 homes and left two people dead in Ventura and Los Angeles counties.

Aon's Impact Forecasting team says the aggregate cost of the fires is expected to result in a multi-billion-dollar payout for the insurance industry.
