Waterfield appointed new BDMA chairman

Mike Waterfield has been announced as the new British Damage Management
Association (BDMA) chairman, taking over from outgoing chairman, Don
Pringle.

On taking up his appointment, Waterfield says: “During Don’s chairmanship the BDMA has made fantastic progress as the only recognised accreditation body for our industry. As a result of working in partnership with the ABI, the CILA, ClimateWise and others, together with the introduction of Insurance Technician accreditation, our links with the wider insurance industry have never been stronger.

“The challenge, moving forward, will be to build on this position. The growing confidence displayed by insurers and loss adjusters in the professionalism of damage management practitioners, and recognition of their ability to deliver a reduction in total claims costs, must be translated into real benefits on the ground. This will only be achieved by technically competent individuals delivering appropriate value added solutions across the board.

“Our efforts have resulted in a comprehensive overhaul of the BDMA Standards, input to the PAS64 review as members of the Steering Group, delivery of professional training and accreditation for insurers and loss adjusters alongside continued accreditation of damage management practitioners, development of a Sustainable Damage Management protocol in conjunction with ClimateWise and involvement in a variety of ABI and industry committees.

“Developing and progressing similar initiatives and maintaining industry wide relationships at all levels will be the route to the continued successful development of our organisation in the future.”

Mike Waterfield has been the BDMA Standards & Education Co-ordinator for a number of years and a member of the BDMA Executive Committee since 2001. He is currently regional director at Polygon, UK & Ireland.
