Travelers appoints Wilson as COO

Travelers has appointed Matthew Wilson as chief operating officer, Europe. Wilson is based in London and reports to CEO Sean Genden, who previously held the role of COO until his promotion in 2011.

Wilson joins Travelers from Willis Group where he has worked since 2000, holding a variety of roles including chief operating officer of Willis Global Specialties and compliance and legal affairs director of Willis’ International.

A graduate of law, Wilson began his career as a solicitor in 1992. In 1996 he moved into the insurance arena and joined Legal & General. Wilson was also a director of Troika, the UK government-backed scheme to provide terrorism liability insurance to airlines in the immediate aftermath of 9/11.
Wilson’s responsibilities at Travelers will be to oversee the European functional areas. He will partner with the senior leaders of the two European operations: Travelers Syndicate Management (Syndicate 5000) and Travelers Insurance Company.
