Steve White appointed new BIBA chief

The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA) has announced the appointment of Steve White, currently head of compliance and training, to the post of chief executive, with effect from 1 May 2013.

BIBA chairman, Andy Homer, additionally announced that Graeme Trudgill, BIBA’s head of corporate affairs, will also be promoted to the main board of BIBA. He will take the post of executive director reporting to Steve White, also effective from 1 May 2013.

Andy Homer said: “We are very pleased that Steve has accepted the task as new CEO to carry forward the strategic reforms envisaged in the extensive consultation that is currently underway with our members.

“Our search for the right leader to carry BIBA forward has been extensive and to have someone who is both respected and known well by our members to do this is particularly pleasing.”

Steve White said: “I am delighted to have been given the chance to lead BIBA and to follow in the footsteps of Eric Galbraith.

“We have a very demanding Board and a clear strategic direction. My first responsibility will be to articulate that to our members and stakeholders and then get on with the job of implementation.

“I’m looking forward to working with Graeme and the rest of the BIBA team to continue to drive the organisation forward.”

Current chief executive, Eric Galbraith, said: “To have a current BIBA executive, an internal promotion in other words, to be my successor is great news. Steve really cares about BIBA and how we get better in representing members and it is a pleasure to hand over the reigns to him.”

Steve White joined BIBA in 2004 and has spent over 35 years in the insurance industry, previously working at the Guardian Royal Exchange Group, the General Insurance Standards Council and the Financial Services Authority. White has a detailed understanding of the application of FSA rules to insurance intermediaries and is a source of informed opinion on regulatory and compliance issues.
