Last night saw a second night of significantly lower disorder, and where the large numbers of officers on the streets prevented any significant events.
Despite this, similar numbers of officers are expected on the streets tonight. In London, the Metropolitan Police Service has now arrested a total of 888 people in connection with violence, disorder and looting and recovered a variety of stolen goods including TVs and mobiles. Wednesday night itself saw 127 arrests been made across London. So far, the Met says 371 people have been charged for a range of offences. They say there are 550 crimes scenes, of which 140 remain cordoned to allow for forensic and other investigation.
Three juveniles have been arrested in connection with violence and the arson at the Sony storage warehouse in Enfield, North London.
A number of acts and record labels have been affected by the blaze, which took 40 firefighters to tackle.
The situation also appears to be calming in the West Midlands, where police have made more than 300 arrests so far. There, over 1,000 officers were on duty overnight.
