Markel launches new liability cover for charities

Markel has launched a new flexible liability product for charities and community groups which will be available to brokers through the insurer’s e-trading system. The product is one of the few in the market which provides protection for policy holders for damages arising from abuse.

With a minimum premium of £75 for public liability, the policy has been designed to provide simple, easy, modular options for cover that can be selected according to specific needs.

Cover is offered across four sections which can be purchased in isolation or as a package to build the right level of protection for each individual organisation.

The liabilities section comprises public and employers liability; the management
risks section includes professional and management liability alongside entity defence. A new comprehensive property section now includes property damage, business interruption, portable equipment, personal accident and money. The final section is fidelity cover which must be purchased with at least one of the other options.

Wendy Cotton, social welfare line manager at Markel UK, said: “This is an adaptable product which will enable brokers to process business quickly and efficiently, whist tailoring cover to the needs of the client. We have extended coverage to include both buildings and contents, and the protection provided against abuse claims addresses an area of increasing recent concern.

“There are over 163,000 charities alone in the UK, many of them small and requiring cost effective but well designed cover. In particular many small charities are looking for affordable public liability cover which this policy offers along with employers liability as standard. The combination of a highly flexible policy and low cost online placing will be attractive both to brokers and policyholders.”
