Liberty launches new specialty division

Liberty Syndicates has hired Peter Smith as head of its new specialty products division.

The new division, led by Smith, represents a major new initiative for Liberty Syndicates. "We know that these specialty products are an area in which brokers would like us to take an active role,” says Matthew Moore, chief underwriting officer, Liberty Syndicates.

Following this latest appointment, Liberty Syndicates is planning to launch a new, dedicated team of underwriters writing treaty personal accident and treaty political risks, credit and crisis management. The new team is planned for launch in October 2012.

“Peter’s well-deserved reputation for leading the market in specialty business combined with our brand, our high level of broker service and our disciplined approach should make for a very powerful offering. Our next step, which is already under way, is to build a team of strong, respected underwriters to support this endeavour,” adds Moore.
