Specialist insurer, Amlin, has appointed Kim Hvirgel as chief executive of its Netherlands subsidiary, ACI.

Hvirgel, a Danish national aged 51, was previously the CEO of Codan Forsikring, RSA’s Danish subsidiary, where he had worked since 2001. His previous roles at Codan included head of commercial underwriting for Denmark and the Nordic divisional director for commercial lines. From 1993 to 2001, he worked for Tryg for eight years, latterly as assistant general manager and prior to that, for the Danish Insurance Association.

Commenting on the appointment, Charles Philipps, chief executive, Amlin , said: “We are delighted to have attracted someone of Kim’s exceptional talent and experience into this role. We are confident that he will add impetus to ACI’s current change programme and to its subsequent strategic development.”

The appointment is subject to the approval of the Dutch National Bank and Hvirgel is expected to commence at ACI on 1 June 2011. Patrick Coene, the current chief executive of ACI, will step down from that role on the same day.
