Heavy rainfall overnight has led to severe flooding in the south west of England.
As of this morning, the Environment Agency announced ten flood warnings and 15 flood watches in place for rivers in the area.
Cornwall has borne the brunt of the inundation, with flooding in the county declared a ‘major incident’. Local authorities have been working with police and fire and coastguard rescue teams have been deployed to deal with the aftermath.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: “River levels are responding to the overnight rain in South West England and the Environment Agency is warning of a continued risk of flooding from rivers during today and overnight.
There are currently 10 flood warnings in force for rivers in the South West:
* Cornwall: River Fowey from Trekeivesteps to Lostwithiel
* Cornwall: River Kensey from Egloskerry to St Leonards
* Cornwall: River Neet from Woolstone Mill to Rodds Bridge
* Cornwall: River Ottery from Canworthy Water to Werrington
* Devon: River Axe (Lower) from Axminster to Axmouth
* Devon: River Coly from Colyton to Colyford
* Devon: River Dart from Dartmeet to Totnes, including Buckfastleigh and Staverton
* Devon: River Otter (Lower) from Fenny Bridges to Budleigh Salterton
* Devon: River Yarty from Yarcombe to Axminster
* Devon, Somerset, Dorset: River Axe (Upper) from Winsham to Axminster, including Chard Junction and Weycroft
The Met Office predicts more unsettled weather, especially tonight, with some heavier showers sweeping through for a time. Thursday and Friday will see a mix of sunshine and showers, leading to a low risk of flooding from tomorrow.
