Public risk management association, Alarm, has responded to the recent consultation exercise on Lord Justice Jackson’s recommendations for reform of civil litigation funding and costs.

Alarm chief executive, Dr Lynn Drennan, says: “Our members believe that excessive legal costs are a grave burden on public organisations; a burden that is ultimately borne by the taxpayer. Payment of excessive costs diminishes the funds available to deliver front line services and this is our primary area of concern.

"Alarm therefore supports Lord Justice Jackson’s recommendations that CFA fees and ATE insurance premiums should no longer be recoverable from the losing party."
