A man was fatally shot after firing at security forces in Copenhagen, Denmark's capital, on 15 February. The incident occurred near a train station in the Norrebro area of the city at around 05:00 local time.
The victim was suspected of involvement in shooting incidents that occurred in the Osterbro area and in central Copenhagen on 14 and 15 February, although the connection has yet to be confirmed. Security has been heightened throughout the city, as well as at entry and exit points Denmark shares with Sweden and Germany.
Resultant travel delays should be expected. On 14 February, an unidentified assailant opened fire at the Krudttoenden cafe in Copenhagen's northern district of Osterbro. At least one person died in the assault, and three others were wounded.
The cafe was hosting a debate on free speech and was attended by a controversial Swedish artist as well as the French Ambassador. In the early hours of 15 February, about 5km from the scene of the first incident, one civilian was killed and two others wounded in a shooting outside a synagogue on Krystalgade street, central Copenhagen. According to security experts at Red24, it is not yet clear if the two violent incidents were related, and if they were related to the debate or its attendees.
